The Elk Mountains are situated between Aspen and Crested Butte. Other nearby towns include Crystal, Ashcroft, and Marble which is the home of the famous Yule Marble quarry (The marble used for the Tomb of the Unknowns, Lincoln Memorial, and countless other beautiful buildings in America).
I found the following pictures from John Paul Riger on Youtube and they were perfect for this time of the year, so they won the Colorado Pictures of the Week.
Riger's Video is Set to Silent Night, so It's a Great One to Have for the Holidays. I Thought This Picture Captures That Mood
The most famous peaks in the range are the Maroon Bells because of their stunning shapes. The first peak is called Maroon Peak with its sister peak about a third of a mile away called North Maroon Peak. Many people call it the most photographed spot in all of Colorado and looking at the photo from below, you can see why.
When you go to the region, you'll have to hike to the Conundrum Hot Springs. They're totally natural and primitive and the views are stunning.
You'll also want to check out the Gothic Natural Area. They contain virgin Engelmann spruce with moraines (glacial feature) and high alpine lakes.
Do you have any pictures that could compete for "Colorado's Picture of the Week?" People would love to see them and I'll publish them in my Colorado Newsletter. Go to my Colorado Pictures page for details.
